Working alongside our sister company, Indesign Furniture, we’ve been exploring how CGI and 3D visualisation can completely transform both furniture design and lifestyle imagery.
Traditionally, developing a new furniture collection can be both expensive and time-consuming. Prototypes often require materials to be ordered, manufactured, adjusted, and rebuilt before a final design is approved. With 3D modelling, that process becomes far more efficient, flexible, and sustainable.
Using detailed CGI models, we’re able to develop and refine furniture concepts long before a physical piece is produced. This allows designs to evolve without the cost of manufacturing prototypes or the waste that can come from trial-and-error production. Dimensions, finishes, handles, worktops, materials, and colourways can all be explored digitally, giving complete creative freedom without long lead times or unnecessary material sourcing.
Beyond visual concepts, these models also provide the foundation for technical line drawings and production-ready specifications, creating a seamless transition from idea to manufacture.
The Benefits of Designing in 3D:
One of the biggest advantages of working in CGI is the ability to instantly customise and experiment with a product. Whether testing different wood finishes, changing hardware details, or exploring alternative colour palettes, every adjustment can be visualised in real time. Instead of ordering multiple samples or building several physical prototypes, we can make informed creative decisions quickly and accurately.
Not only does this speed up the design process, but it also helps brands refine collections with confidence before production even begins.
Creating Lifestyle Imagery Without Traditional Photoshoots
Alongside furniture design, CGI opens up entirely new possibilities for lifestyle imagery. Traditional location photography often comes with significant costs — sourcing venues, transporting products, coordinating lighting, styling spaces, and managing production schedules. With CGI, every element of a scene can be carefully crafted and controlled from start to finish.
For our work with Indesign Furniture, we wanted to create imagery that sat between modern and classic, with a nod to organic textures, soft natural lighting, and a calm, refined atmosphere that complemented the furniture collection. Because everything was digitally created, every detail could be controlled precisely — from the direction of light through a window to the texture of fabrics and surrounding materials. This allowed us to create imagery that felt aspirational, consistent, and perfectly aligned with the brand’s aesthetic, without the limitations of a physical location shoot.
Designing for High Point Market from the UK
This particular lookbook was created for High Point Market in the US, which added another layer to the project. Working remotely from the UK, we needed to carefully plan not only the product imagery, but also the showroom layout and overall presentation of the collection.
Using CGI allowed us to visualise the entire showroom space before anything was physically installed. From furniture placement and room flow to lighting, styling, and material combinations, every aspect of the showroom could be designed and refined digitally. This gave the team a clear understanding of how the collection would look and feel within the exhibition environment long before arriving on site.
The ability to create and adjust these spaces remotely meant decisions could be made faster, communication was clearer, and the final showroom presentation remained cohesive with the overall brand vision.
A More Efficient Creative Process
CGI is no longer just a presentation tool — it has become an essential part of modern product development and brand storytelling.
By combining furniture design, technical visualisation, lifestyle imagery, and showroom planning into one streamlined workflow, brands can move faster, reduce waste, and create highly tailored visuals that align perfectly with their identity.
Our collaboration with Indesign Furniture demonstrates how digital design tools can support creativity while offering greater flexibility, efficiency, and control throughout the entire process.
